About

upei engineering society members (2024-25)

Meet your 2024-2025 UPEI Engineering Society! Our society is structured with a team of executives who are supported by a dedicated board of directors. The directors assist their respective executive counterparts by overseeing delegated tasks. The executives, in turn, uphold their responsibilities and collaborate closely with the directors to effectively distribute work and responsibilities.

President

Berry Genge - (she/they)

Hello hello! My name is Berry Genge, and I’m in my final year here in the Engineering program at UPEI. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, listening to music, and designing new frog-related merchandise (@poorlydrawnproclivity shameless plug). This is my fourth year on the Engineering Society and I am so excited to lead the Society in this new role. I am also an active member of the UPEI Ultimate (Frisbee) club and work in the Engineering Success Centre on campus. I look forward to representing and advocating for UPEI FSDE students in this role, so if you see me around, feel free to come by and say hello! I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have!‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎ ‎

I first got involved in the society as a first-year rep, served a year as VP Finance, and now will be a member of the executive team once again in my third year of engineering. My focus as VP External will be to represent UPEI on a national scale as well as preparing students for both conferences and competitions. VICE PRESIDENT COMMUNICATIONS

KHIYM MACEWEN - (HE/HIM)

Hey all, my name is Khiym MacEwen, and I’m in my final year here in this funny-looking building we call home. This year, I really want to make the most of every moment I have, not just for myself but also for everyone who finds themselves lucky enough to be a part of the FSDE. This is my first year in the Engineering Society and I am super excited to be part of the team that hopefully delivers some of your most memorable experiences throughout your degree. I love spending time with my friends and family, listening to all kinds of music, and playing and watching basketball. You’ll hear a lot from me over the next year through emails, social media posts, and maybe even advertising atop the academic stairs with a megaphone. Don’t hesitate to reach out for questions, concerns, queries, or qualms if you feel the need. I am more than willing to provide help and answers!

VICE PRESIDENT FINANCE

MYAH VAN’T VELD - (SHE/HER)

Hi everyone! My name is Myah Van’t Veld and I am in my fourth year out of five here at the FSDE. During the summer I work, run my own small business and spend my free time traveling across PEI. I have visited (almost) every lighthouse on PEI, only three left to go! In my free time I enjoy playing ringette and doing anything that lets me be a little creative. Last year I had the opportunity to volunteer with the society as the finance commissioner and I am happy to be your VP Finance this year! I also had the opportunity to attend the ACES AGM and the Atlantic Engineering Competition. My goal as VP Finance is to continue to make opportunities like these conferences and competitions, as well as our engineering events, as affordable for students as possible so everyone can enjoy these wonderful experiences. Please reach out if you have any questions, or if you want to hear some random lighthouse facts!‎

VICE PRESIDENT ADVOCACY

ETHAN DRAKE - (THEY/THEM)

Hey, I’m Ethan Drake! I’ll be going into my second year at the FSDE and my fourth year at UPEI. I was originally in Psychology, but switched and found Engineering is what I’m truly passionate about! I’m almost always in a yellow sweater with a rainbow bandana, so if you see me around the building, feel free to come say hi! I love the colour yellow, trains, reading theory on a variety of topics, and playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends. This will be my second year volunteering with the UPEI Engineering Society and I’m honoured to have worked last year with now-President Berry Genge to create our new Engineering Society Mascot, LONG PANTHER! I’ll also be this year’s Engineering Representative for the UPEI Student Union; I'm excited to leverage these roles to help foster a deeper community among the earlier years in the FSDE, and work to bring Canadian engineering culture and traditions to our faculty. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any thoughts or ideas for our campus community, or are facing issues around academic regulations or student advocacy and I will work to ensure your voice is heard!
